Gladstone Theatre: A wonderful afternoon & great evening

Wonderful afternoon at the @gladthea [Gladstone Theatre] with a performance of the Comedy, “No More Fiffing and Faffing”, my thanks to Ken our set designer, Jordan the manager, Nathan on sound and lighting and all the volunteers! Great also catching up with old friends for an evening meal!

Jimmy Cricket enjoyed a “wonderful afternoon” at the Gladstone Theatre on The Wirral recently.

The Port Sunlight venue hosted Jimmy’s popular comedy play No more Fiffing and Faffing in the afternoon as part of a tour of the north of England.

And in the evening, the famous comedian caught up with some old pals for dinner.

He tweeted: “Wonderful afternoon at the @gladtheav [Gladstone Theatre] with a performance of the Comedy, ‘No More Fiffing and Faffing’.

“My thanks to Ken our set designer, Jordan the manager, Nathan on sound and lighting and all the volunteers! Great also catching up with old friends for an evening meal! ????”

No more Fiffing and Faffing had a highly successful debut last September at the Blackburn Empire Theatre.

The Met in Bury and the Chorley Little Theatre in Lancashire are among the other venues where it has been performed.

Jimmy wrote the play and also stars in it, alongside Jonathan Young (The Bachelors) and actor Colin Meredith, who has appeared in Coronation Street.

Our last day in New York and we went to celebrate Mass in the iconic St Patrick’s Cathedral then onto 9/11 Memorials where once the Twin Towers stood, a day etched in all our minds, now an epitaph to all those who died, and also a testament to man’s lack of humanity and empathy!

Mass at a famous cathedral and the 9/11 Memorial were on the itinerary for Jimmy Cricket and his family.

Earlier during their holiday in New York, they watched a show on Broadway and visited the historic Ellis Island.

Jimmy tweeted: “Our last day in New York and we went to celebrate Mass in the iconic St Patrick’s Cathedral.

“Then onto 9/11 Memorial where once the Twin Towers stood, a day etched in all our minds

“Now an epitaph to all those who died and also a testament to man’s lack of humanity and empathy.”

Ellis Island, in New York Harbour, contains a museum and a former immigration inspection station.

It was the United States’ busiest immigrant inspection station from 1892 to 1954.

Ellis Island processed about 12 million immigrants to the country through the Port of New York and New Jersey.

The Statue of Liberty

Today, it is part of the Statue of Liberty national monument (right) and hosts a museum of immigration (below).

Popular entertainer Jimmy posted several messages and photos of the holiday.

He tweeted: “Been to see this wonderful musical, taken from the classic Disney film, “Frozen”, at the St James Theatre!

“Been to this wonderful city that never sleeps a few times, but never to Ellis Island, where walking in the footsteps of my fellow Irish countrymen in 1845, who came seeking a better life.

“I entered the Registry Room, then onto to Liberty Island to meet the great lady once again!”

The US trip included a visit to Hoboken, New Jersey, birthplace of legendary American singer and actor Frank Sinatra.

Jimmy posted: “I had the great pleasure of visiting the town of Hoboken where Sinatra was born and had spend his formative years.“

Jimmy Cricket thanks everyone at the Bridlington Spa

Jimmy Cricket tweeted: My thanks to all the staff at the wonderful #SpaTheatreBridlington for tonight, and to all my friends who helped with loading and putting the set together for the performance!

Jimmy Cricket expressed his thanks to staff and friends at the Bridlington Spa theatre after the latest staging of his comedy play.

The East Yorkshire coast venue hosted No more Fiffing and Faffing on Thursday (18 July) as part of a North of England tour.

No more Fiffing and Faffing had its debut in 2018 at the Blackburn Empire Theatre and has also played in Bury and Chorley.

Jimmy wrote No more Fiffing and Faffing and also performs in it.

The other actors are Jonathan Young from The Bachelors and actor Colin Meredith, who has appeared in ITV’s Coronation Street.

Jimmy posted on social media: “My thanks to all the staff at the wonderful #SpaTheatreBridlington for tonight, and to all my friends who helped with loading and putting the set together for the performance! ????”

The play is about double act Joe Fiffen and Jerry Faffen who are on their last night in showbusiness.

They attempt to settle some old scores in the dressing room.

Jimmy Cricket writes about his admiration for a legendary comedy duo in his latest newspaper column.

In the 1 April edition of the Lancashire Post, the popular Northern Irish entertainer reviews a recent film about the careers of Englishman Stan Laurel and American Oliver Hardy.

They acted during the early Classical Hollywood era of American cinema and became well known during the late 1920s to the mid-1940s for their slapstick comedy. Laurel played the clumsy friend of the pompous Hardy.

Jimmy’s column begins: I’ve just come back from doing my one man show at the Slapstick Comedy Festival in Bristol at the Studio adjoining the Old Vic Theatre. The festival was started by a guy called Chris Daniels who just loves visual and silent comedy.

“I did my live set sandwiched between movies of Charlie Chaplin and Laurel and Hardy up on the big wide screen. There’s been a resurgence of interest in Laurel and Hardy, mainly due to a biopic of the duo which went on general release in our cinemas recently called Stan and Ollie.

“In fact, I’ve been to see it twice. Well folks, our local Odeon Cinema here in Rochdale only charges a fiver to get in. It’s a moving, tender tribute to one of the funniest double acts ever to grace the silver screen; not only do Steve Coogan as Stan Laurel, and John C Reilly as Oliver Hardy get into the skin of these two lovable clowns, but the ladies that played their wives both give stunning performance as well.

“Nina Arianda plays Stan’s other half and Shirley Henderson is Ollie’s. I had a little inside information on this film. Steve Coogan’s Uncle Bernard takes his grandkids to the same school in Rochdale that I take mine, so I get some tasty nuggets of gossip in the playground.

“I looked at him enviously as he told me about getting the red carpet treatment when he got invited to the premiere of the movie up at the local cinema in Ulverston where Stan Laurel grew up. The only time I get to see a red carpet is when Mrs Cricket hands me the Hoover.”

Jimmy Cricket Live – Pull Your Seats Forward was created by the popular comedian’s family company, Wellie Boot Productions, in 2010 at the Royal Court Theatre in Bacup, Lancashire, near Jimmy’s adopted home of Rochdale in Greater Manchester.

And the Northern Irish entertainer returns to the venue on Sunday – St Patrick’s Day – for one of his Great Value for a Tenner comedy shows.

Belfast-born Jimmy produced the DVD in response to the overwhelming public clamour that suggested there was a real demand for a recording of his stand-up entertainment.

The DVD is an hour and 10 minutes long and includes Jimmy’s favourite routines, a phone call and letter from his mammy, his famous Leaving Home poem, his sentimental ballad called I’m Dreaming of a Far off Land and 20 minutes of extras.

Around 8,000 copies of the DVD have been sold, which is particularly impressive as it is not available in retail outlets; it can only be bought via the Go Shopping page on this website or at one of his live shows.

Jimmy posted on social media this week: “Looking forward to my return to the Theatre were I recorded my DVD nine years ago for the St Patrick’s Day celebrations this coming Sunday with Dansworks Dance Academy and a few Irish songs from Mrs C. ☘️”

Skegness awaits return of ‘superstar TV comedian’

The Club Tropicana Friday 26 July, the very welcome return of the very funny TV star Jimmy Cricket, with full supporting show

Jimmy Cricket is back at a top entertainment venue in Lincolnshire in the summer.

The famous Northern Irish comedian, 71, has performed at the Club Tropicana in Skegness previously and returns for a show there on Friday 26 July (8pm start).

Club Tropicana’s website describes itself  as the “East Coast’s finest ‘live’ entertainment venue”.

In anticipation of Jimmy’s latest show at the club in Chapel St Leonards, it talks about “the very welcome return of the superstar TV comedian Jimmy Cricket, with full supporting show from the brilliant Kaiser Monkey Killers and Starlite 19”.

Members get in free, while non-members pay on the door. Table reservations are recommended and tables are served until 8pm. To book a table, call 01754 874444 (option 2).

Rod Stewart tribute act & the Eric Morecambe Halls

Lovely afternoon at the Eric Morecambe Halls in Harpenden with the Sarah Andrews Dance Academy who performed in the first half, then received awards for their individual achievements and I was privileged to have been asked to present the awards alongside singer/compère Roger!

Jimmy Cricket had a busy weekend of shows in which he performed alongside a Rod Stewart tribute act and also presented some dance awards.

The famous comedian was at the E57 Club in Birmingham on the night of Saturday 17 November and then the following afternoon, he performed at the Eric Morecambe Halls in the St Albans City district of Hertfordshire.

He tweeted after the first show (photo below): “Great night at the E57 Club with fellow acts, Nathan Singer/Compère, with Rod Stewart tribute Gerry, and also pictured here with Committee member Patrick in front of the poster!”

And the following day, he posted the picture above on social media saying: “Lovely afternoon at the Eric Morecambe Halls in Harpenden with the Sarah Andrews Dance Academy who performed in the first half, then received awards for their individual achievements and I was privileged to have been asked to present the awards alongside singer/compère Roger!”
