The day of the fun run (18 October) to mark Jimmy Cricket’s 70th birthday is nearly here!
And there is still time to enter if you fancy a challenge – and help raise money for charity.
Sunday’s run has been in the pipeline for more than a year and has been organised by Rochdale race organiser Andy O’Sullivan.
It will start from near the Cock and Magpie public House and follow a course around the beautiful Cowm Reservoir in Whitworth, Lancashire.
Famous entertainer Jimmy, who turned 70 on the eve of the race, will be present to start the junior race off at 11.15am and the Under-13s will do one lap of the course, with the seniors being set off by Jimmy at 11.30am with the aim of completing two laps of the course totalling five kilometres. He will also greet runners as they finish.
Also present at the start/finish area will be Rochdale Valley Radio’s roadshow, members of the Rossendale 2nd Scout brass band playing some live music and representatives from the Francis House Children’s Hospice, the charity benefiting from the event.
There is still time for runners to take part as anyone interested can pay the entrance fee on the day of the race (more details below).
Birthday boy Jimmy said: “Spectators are welcome to come along and support the runners, and after the race is finished I will lead everyone down to the Cock and Magpie for a drink!”
The entry fee to join Jimmy at this fun event is £4 to club runners and £6 to all others. The entry fee for the junior race is £2 (minimum age is eight). An additional £1 will be charged to entrants who turn up on the day. Prizes will be awarded to all race finishers.
