Jimmy Cricket delighted with Twitter caricature

Caricature of Jimmy CricketJimmy Cricket was both surprised and delighted when a caricature of him was posted on Twitter.

The artist behind the creation is called Blist, aka Andy Cartledge, a cartoonist and illustrator. He is based in South Yorkshire and draws cartoons for the Rotherham Advertiser.

Famous comedian Jimmy, 70, said: “I was really impressed with this illustration of me, which has been created with fine detail in mind.

“Not only does the drawing have me depicted in my trademark attire of dress suit, bowler hat and wellies marked with ‘L’ and ‘R’, but the artist has even included me wearing one glove!” (Jimmy often wears this glove for one of his jokes).

Because the drawing is one of the best cartoons Jimmy has seen of himself, he is now using it as his identifier on social media sites Twitter and Facebook.

Hello again to Hunstanton!

Jimmy Cricket is back next month at the venue where he spent the majority of the 2013 summer season.

Jimmy was in the West Norfolk resort for most of last summer, as he starred in the Great British Seaside Summer show.

During his time in Hunstanton, Jimmy had a fantastic stay and earned the affection of the local community.

This included him touching base with a number of local businesses, including the Wash Monster boat ride operator; Hunstanton’s sealife centre; the Marine Hotel (where he stayed for the duration of the season) and Café Blah Blahh to name only a few.

Jimmy said: “I can’t wait to return to the Princess Theatre in this idyllic resort and hope to bump into a few familiar faces when I land there again in August.”

The famous Belfast-born entertainer appeared in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at the North East theatre over the Christmas and New Year period. Sellout crowds watched the pantomime; in fact, the biggest attendances ever for a panto at the venue.

And as he arrived to perform again at the theatre at the start of April, he was greeted with a green cake with a pair of wellingtons on it – Jimmy is renowned in his acts for wearing wellies on the wrong feet!

The cake was made by Stockton resident Yasmin Calvert whose mum, Janet, went to the stage door of the theatre to hand it to Jimmy.Jimmy Cricket appeared in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at the North East theatre over the Christmas and New Year period

Jimmy said: “I was overjoyed on receiving it as it’s one of the best that anyone has made for me. I was particularly impressed with the detail of the decoration and amazed at how it was produced all in green!

“A big thank you to Yasmin for the efforts she went to in making this culinary delight for me.”

His comedy show was a triumph as almost 400 people came to see Jimmy on his return.

He invited the Heritage Dance School to perform a  few numbers during the show and added: “I was  very pleased with their efforts as they slotted in really nicely.”

‘Your radio show is global, so it is’

Jimmy and SimonJimmy Cricket had a humorous exchange on the social media website Twitter with a showbiz colleague following a chat with his window cleaner.

Rochdale-based and Belfast-born funnyman Jimmy was talking to Simon Leach, whose business is called G Butterworth windows and who is interested in comedy.

Simon told Jimmy he often listens on his travels to different radio broadcasts and one comedian he listens to is William Caulfield whose radio show, It’s William Caulfield, So It Is, is broadcast on BBC Radio Ulster.

Jimmy said: “I am friends with William and have worked with him on a couple of occasions over the course of the past year, so I thought I would send a picture of me and Simon over to William via Twitter to prove his radio show has an international audience!”

The brief Twitter discussion went as follows:

‏@jimmy__cricket@wecaulfield Just bumped into Simon who lives in Lancashire and who listens to your radio show over here as a podcast pic.twitter.com/x9pF3MobKS

William replied: @jimmy__cricket I’m going to (go) world wide yet!
