The Lichfield Gospel Choir has won Jimmy Cricket’s Golden Wellington award for April.

Veteran comic Jimmy presented the choir with the accolade on the stage of the Lichfield Garrick Theatre in Lichfield (above).

They were all at the theatre to appear in a charity concert which raised more than £2,000 for the Lichfield Foodbank and St Giles Hospice.

The Lichfield Gospel Choir is a great community group led by Themba Mvula. It sings a varied repertoire of traditional, modern, American and African Gospel Music. The choir has around 80 members, who attend lively and joyful weekly rehearsals every Tuesday night in Lichfield.

They appear in all sorts of community events at various venues. For more information please visit www.lichfieldgospelchoir.co.uk

Jimmy’s Golden Wellington is an award that he created several years ago based on his trademark wellington boots.

“Although it is a bit of fun, it has a serious side as I use the publicity from the award to acknowledge a good deed or significant contribution to a community. This often shines a spotlight on the valuable efforts from a neighbourhood’s unsung hero or heroes,” said Jimmy, 70.
