Sunday Night at the Grand show marks special milestone

Blackpool's Sunday Night at the Grand returns next month for its 10th anniversary show, promising laughter, music and dance.

Blackpool’s Sunday Night at the Grand returns next month for its 10th anniversary show, promising laughter, music and dance.

The variety spectacular takes place at The Grand Theatre on Sunday 16 March (7.30pm start).

Well-known comedians Jimmy Cricket and Billy Pearce are among those performing on the night.

Other entertainers include Britain’s Got Talent finalist, award-winning impressionist Ben Nickless, and Lisa Press, a tribute act to Celine Dion.

Also appearing is outstanding vocalist Benjamin Moss, who appeared on Voice UK.

All proceeds go to the The Not Forgotten charity, which supports veterans.

‘More confident’

Its website says it “transforms the lives of veterans and serving military personnel living with injury, illness or isolation”.

“We run a varied year-round programme of social events, day outings, respite and challenge breaks around the UK and aboard, and prestige royal events at Buckingham Palace and St James’s Palace.

“These events improve physical and mental health, reduce isolation and loneliness, build self-esteem and re-establish the camaraderie and peer support for those who desperately miss that sense of belonging.”

It adds that this enables “beneficiaries and their families to live a happier, more sociable and more confident life”.

Gaz Jenkins hosts Sunday Night at the Grand, which also features the Showcase international dancers.

The event is in conjunction with Tower Top Entertainments and the Lyndene Hotel, Jimmy Cricket’s fabourite Blackpool hotel.

Blackpool’s Lyndene Hotel: Return after summer break

Jimmy Cricket is back at the Lyndene in Blackpool this week for the first time since late spring.

The veteran comedian, whose last appearance at the popular hotel was in May, performs four times there in September.

He is on stage on three Wednesdays (4, 18 and 25 September) and Saturday 7 September.

The famous entertainer will perform on three nights during December – 11, 18 and 31 – as part of the festive season.

He also appears during Halloween week (30 October) at the popular seaside resort (see right for poster).

The Lyndene, perched on the Blackpool seafront, is one of the resort’s unique locations as it welcomes tourists and visitors all year round.

Jimmy, who turns 74 in October, performs in two separate lounges on the same night, along with other artists.

Other acts include comedian Carl Schofield and Stars in Their Eyes winner Peter Sarsfield as Frankie Valli.

Jimmy Cricket's Lyndene Hotel dates in 2019

Jimmy announced earlier this year that he is to spend a FIFTH season next year at the Lyndene Hotel.

The Belfast-born comedian, who lives in his adopted hometown of Rochdale, has at least two shows almost every month in 2020.

That is apart from December next year, when he performs three times, and February when he has none.

Jimmy Cricket is to spend another season at a venue he describes as his “second home”.

The Northern Irish comedian has had a series of dates at the popular Lyndene Hotel on the Promenade in Blackpool over the past four years.

He performs in two separate lounges on the same night, along with other artists.

And the veteran family entertainer has signed up for another set of shows in 2020 at the Lyndene, which is perched on the seafront and is one of Blackpool’s unique locations as it welcomes tourists and visitors all year round.

Jimmy, 73, posted on social media: “Returning to what has become my second home working alongside many talented singers and old friends like @MALFORDUK, my thanks goes to Claire @TowerTopEnts  and @LyndeneHotel the Manager Paul, and all the Team members for their hospitality and support over the last four years.”????

Lyndene Hotel: Jimmy finishes first 2017 stint

Jimmy Cricket has just completed the spring set of dates for his 2017 residency at the popular Lyndene Hotel in Blackpool.

The 71-year-old entertainer started back in January and has had shows through the winter and into spring, ending on Saturday 18 March to coincide with the St Patrick’s Day festivities.

Although his residency is throughout 2017, the dates when Jimmy will appear at the Lyndene have been split into two periods this year.

It means he will not return to the hotel to resume his performances until Wednesday 4 October, but when he does go back he will have a further 13 dates, including every Wednesday and Saturday throughout the month of November (full schedule below).

Primarily, this has involved a couple of performances per visit, as often the hotel is so packed with guests they need to have a second spill-over show in the conservatory after the main cabaret room fills up.

Jimmy, who also did a host of shows at the Blackpool hotel last year, said: “I have  become very fond of the Lyndene Hotel and thoroughly enjoyed  my time appearing there.

“I would like to place on record my many thanks to the owners of the Lyndene Hotel – Barry and Carole – for continuing to host me at their venue.

“I also thank Claire at Tower Top Entertainments for helping to organise my Lyndene visits over the course of 2017.”
