Northern Irish funnyman Jimmy Cricket headlined Tuesday’s event.

Multi-instrumental variety act Andy Eastwood hosted the afternoon of entertainment.

Virtuoso musician Gordon Cree, mezzo-soprano Cheryl Forbesβ€― andβ€―Helen Farrell, with her tribute to the great divas of the sixties, completed the line-up.

Jimmy said on Facebook: “Hi folks, what a great variety afternoon show at the wonderful #casttheatre in Doncaster yesterday.

“With organiser the gifted multi-instrumentalist #andyeastwood with his very talented family, #helenlouiseeastwood and little baby β€˜Poppy May’ (a star of the future).

“Alongside the lovely mezzo soprano #cherylforbes and husband #gordoncree a fab virtuoso.

“Our thanks also to the stage technicians Alex, Dan, Jason for all their help with the sound and lighting onstage!🎭#keepvarietyalive.”

‘Jimmy Cricket is one of the comedy greats’

Jimmy Cricket is a comedy great, with "never an insult or blue joke".

Jimmy Cricket is a comedy great, with “never an insult or blue joke”.

That’s the view of fellow professional Andy Eastwood ahead of a variety show Jimmy is headlining in Doncaster next month.

Andy is hosting the big eventΒ at The Cast theatre in the south Yorkshire town on Tuesday 6 May.

It begins at 1.30pm and tickets are available here.

“Jimmy is one of the greats. Comedy trends have come and gone, but he has stayed true to his style,” says Andy.

The Cast website states: “Jimmy’s amazing career in comedy includes his own TV and radio series, Royal Command performances and even a Papal Knighthood, awarded for his services to charity.

“Joining Jimmy will be our host β€―Andy Eastwood, with his dazzling array of instruments, and from Scotland, another virtuoso musician, the remarkable, multi-talentedβ€―Gordon Cree.

“The stunning mezzo-soprano voice ofβ€―Cheryl Forbesβ€―will bring us favourite songs from stage and screen.

“Completing the all-star line-up is the sensationalβ€―Helen Farrell, with her tribute to the great divas of the sixties!”

Doncaster show will ‘leave you rolling in the aisles’

Mark Andrews' Award Winning Productions return with The Good Old Days of Variety in Doncaster starring headliner comedy legend the one & only Jimmy Cricket

Jimmy Cricket is headlining a return to the good old days of variety in Doncaster later this month.
The popular Northern Irish comic is appearing at The Cast theatre in the south Yorkshire town on Tuesday 19 October.
It begins in the theatre’s Main Space at 1.30pm.
The Doncaster theatre’s website promises “comedy to leave you rolling in the aisles”.
It adds: “We’re back with our first very special show since lockdown starring bill topper and legendary comedy star Jimmy Cricket from TV & the Royal Variety shows.
“With fabulous special guests including the international speciality Act Van Buren & Allyson, sensational singer Victoria Jones with her special tribute to Cilla Black, your very own compere/ producer Mark Andrew & fabulous live musicians.
“Join us as we take a nostalgic trip down memory lane and celebrate those glory days of variety.

There is a maximum order of 10 tickets for this event.

The theatre opened in 2013. It “welcomes audiences and participants of all ages from across the borough of Doncaster and beyond”.Β
