Christmas podcast to raise money for children's charity

The variety show, comprising comedy, songs and sketches, was recorded as part of one of the regular ‘jam’ nights in Jimmy’s adopted home of Rochdale.

Famous Northern Irish comedian Jimmy and May have for about 15 years hosted a regular night of entertainment and charity fund-raising at a local parish centre.

It provides an opportunity for Jimmy, May and other performers to try out new (and relive some old) routines.

They began it on a monthly basis and in the past few years have alternated hosting the jam nights with their good friend and fellow entertainer Eric Devereaux.

It takes place in the lounge area of St Vincent’s RC parish centre in Norden.

They often invite special guests who perform free of charge.

‘Merry Christmas everyone!’

There is a raffle and the selling of refreshments, with all proceeds donated to a chosen charity.

The popular comedian has nicknamed those who regularly support these evenings as ‘Jimmy’s Jammers’.

Francis House Children’s Hospice, for whom Jimmy has raised many thousands of pounds over the years, will benefit from proceeds of the Christmas special.

Jimmy said: “For anyone who does tune in, we’re asking them to make a small donation towards the charity.

“Big or small, they will all be warmly accepted.

“Merry Christmas everyone!”

At last – Jimmy Cricket set to return to the stage!

Jimmy Cricket returns to the stage on Sunday 27 June 2021Jimmy Cricket is finally about to return to doing live shows.

Sunday (27 June) will see the famous funnyman’s first appearance on (a real) stage this year.

He is performing at Oxton Conservative Club in Birkenhead on the Wirral, Merseyside.

The coronavirus pandemic has forced the suspension of most live shows in person for the majority of the past 15 months.

Jimmy is also looking forward to returning to the Lyndene, his favourite Blackpool hotel, on Wednesday 7 July.

He has appeared regularly on the popular Lyndene’s two stages over the past few years.

Five seasons

His performances at the Lyndene were limited during 2020 following the restrictions imposed because of coronavirus.

Jimmy did his last show there in September before another lockdown resulted in the closure of hospitality venues.

He will appear once a month at the Lyndene from July until the end of the year.

The popular Northern Irishman has enjoyed five seasons in total at the seaside venue.

Tony Horsfield and Eric Devereux, both very good friends of Jimmy, were the organisers of the event.

Johnny Vegas to also feature in film

Johnny Vegas is appearing in the Womble film

Famous actor and comedian Johnny Vegas is to appear in the Womble movie, which is being filmed on location in North Wales and also features entertainer Jimmy Cricket.

St Helens-born Johnny is well known for his appearances in the hit ITV comedy drama Benidorm and also for popping up in adverts for tea brand PG Tips with a stuffed puppet monkey!

His addition to the cast is another major coup for the people behind Womble the movie, as it also includes top comedian Jimmy, 69, who will play himself as a talent contest judge.

The film is about a man called Aloysius Rupert Womble (played by actor and comedian Tom Spencer), who is in his 30s and living with Asperger’s Syndrome in a typical seaside resort town.

Children and adults affected by Asperger’s Syndrome have difficulty with social interactions and exhibit a restricted range of interests and/or repetitive behaviours.

Aloysius’s dream is to become a stand-up comedian. The film is a week-long snapshot of his life as he goes through the trials of living with a cognitive disorder, while dealing with the injustices forced upon him by society and parts of his community.

Over the seven-day period he prepares for the biggest night of his life – a talent show in his local pub.

The film will feature songs from the Beautiful South’s former lead singer Briana Corrigan and American Pie star Thomas Nicholas, as well as a string of original songs written by songwriters especially for the movie.
