Tickets are selling fast for Jimmy Cricket’s first play

Tickets for the world premiere of Jimmy Cricket’s first play are selling fast.

No more Fiffing and Faffing will be staged at the Blackburn Empire Theatre on Sunday 16 September at 7.30pm.

Join comedy double act Joe Fiffen and Jerry Faffen on their last night in showbusiness. As well as their classic sketches, they’ll be settling some old scores in the dressing room.

Appearing with famous comedian Jimmy will be Jonathan Young from The Bachelors, and actor Colin Meredith, who has had several notable appearances in ITV’s Coronation Street over the years.

Jimmy and his wife May have just returned from a European cruise.

Northern Irish entertainer Jimmy was performing on the Magellan – a ship belonging to Cruise and Maritime Voyages – which sailed along the coasts of France, Portugal and Spain.

Earlier on the cruise, they visited the cathedral at Santiago de Compostela, the resting place for the relics of the apostle St James and the finishing point for a popular pilgrimage route, the Camino de Santiago (the Way of St James).

And later they went to the National Pantheon (Panteão Nacional) in Lisbon, in which important Portuguese personalities – including Eusébio – are buried. Eusébio da Silva Ferreira is considered by many as one of the greatest footballers of all time.

On their return, Jimmy posted on social media (see photo below): “Back on dry land and my thanks to one of the newer Cruise ? Companies for looking after us so well, here with fellow artist onboard Gary with his family!”

Jimmy Cricket has visited the tomb of legendary Portuguese footballer Eusébio.

The veteran comedian was at the National Pantheon (Panteão Nacional) in Lisbon, in which important Portuguese personalities – including Eusébio – are buried.

Eusébio da Silva Ferreira is considered by many as one of the greatest footballers of all time.

He was known for his speed, technique, athleticism and his ferocious right-footed shot, making him a prolific goalscorer. During his professional career, he scored 733 goals in 745 matches (41 goals in 64 matches for Portugal).

Eusébio helped Portugal to reach third place at the 1966 World Cup held in England, being the top goalscorer of the tournament with nine goals (including four in one match against North Korea).

Jimmy, 72, posted on Twitter (with the photos below): “Here on our travels stumbled across the crypt of one of the greatest footballers who ever graced a football pitch!”

Jimmy Cricket's May column in the Lancashire Evening Post

Jimmy Cricket has been recalling the day he was presented with the famous ‘big red book’ on This Is Your Life – and how his wife May also got a massive surprise!

In his latest column for the Lancashire Evening Post, Jimmy explained how in the late 1980s he had been asked by his publishers to go to London for the launch of his Letters From My Mammy book.

Jimmy was informed the event was going to take place on a building site the following day, when in reality he was going to be met by This Is Your Life presenter Eamonn Andrews.

In the popular and long-running show, the host would spring unexpectedly on a special guest, before going to a studio to take them through their life with the assistance of the ‘big red book’ and the help of friends and family.

The surprise element was a very important part of the show; if the guest heard about the plans beforehand, it would immediately be abandoned.

After arriving in London, Jimmy bumped into his sister-in-law Evelyn much to his amazement (and hers!), as she had moved to Australia several years earlier.

Evelyn had been asked to come back to appear on the show and clearly hadn’t expected to meet Jimmy in the street, but she managed to come up with a story that she had returned to Britain as a special surprise for her sister May, Jimmy’s wife.

Hence, as things turned out, Jimmy was able to turn the tables on May during the show by telling her that Evelyn was in fact there (May had been told her sister could not make it).

The show was broadcast on Wednesday 4 November, the eve of Eamonn Andrews’ death.

This Is Your Life was originally broadcast live, and alternated between on the BBC and  on ITV over the years.

Jimmy Cricket recently returned to perform in Eastbourne – where he spent much of the 2012 summer season.

The famous Irish entertainer was back at the Royal Hippodrome Theatre doing his popular stand-up comedy show.

May Cricket, whose showbusiness name is May MarionJimmy (below) and his wife, May, (right) – who performed as the female vocalist May Marion – can both be seen in their dressing rooms getting ready for the show.

May is often Jimmy’s main supporting artist when he is touring the length and breadth of the UK.

Top, Jimmy is pictured with some members of the audience – Ali O’ Grady, and her husband and mother-in-law – in the theatre foyer after the evening’s performance.

All photos are courtesy of Jimmy’s great friend, Gerry Molumby, who had come to see Jimmy at Eastbourne and also arranged for him to appear at this year’s Crawley Irish Festival the following day.

Both Jimmy and Gerry stayed at the Marine Parade Hotel after the show, which is owned by Jimmy’s close friends, Jerome and Carol, and is just around the corner from the theatre.

The happy couple doing the first dance played to music from the two DavidsRochdale-based Jimmy Cricket crossed the Pennines to attend his niece’s wedding reception at the end of August.

Lindsay and Chris actually got married at Lake Garda in Italy, but on their return to Leeds they wanted to have a celebration for all their family and friends who could not make the ceremony.

The evening’s entertainment at Morley Rugby Club was provided by Lindsay’s brother and Northern Irish-born Jimmy’s nephew, David, who sang and played the keyboard alongside David Tattersall, a singer and guitarist.

They created delightful harmonies and the repertoire they chose for the occasion was a fine array of modern and classic pop songs.

The happy couple thanked everyone for their attendance, with a special mention to both their mums who, over the course of the night, looked after their one-year-old daughter, Brooke.
