‘Thanks for helping me to have a special birthday!’

Jimmy Cricket celebrated his 73rd birthday performing at Rivington Hall Barn in Lancashire.

The well-known Northern Irish funnyman did two shows on 16 and 17 October, which were part of the venue’s series of special lunchtime parties, with his old friend Keith Swift, a singer.

And he posted on social media later: “Have enjoyed working over the last two afternoons at the wonderful , my thanks to Kevin, Matthew, Trish, Jill, Ben and all the staff, who helped to make my Birthday very special, (alongside my Twitter friends), here also with my fellow act and friend Keith Swift.”

Rivington Hall, situated between Bolton and Chorley, has been home to the Salmon family since 1953.

The barn had been empty after World War II and, following refurbishment, it became a venue for all types of events and has continued to be since then.

Below are some of the photographs Jimmy posted on social media from the shows.

Jimmy Cricket performed two afternoon shows at what he describes as the “wonderful” Rivington Hall Barn in Lancashire.

Rivington Hall, situated between Bolton and Chorley, has been home to the Salmon family since 1953 and hosting events in the adjacent Hall Barn ever since.

The barn is an historic Grade ll listed building believed to date back to the 12th century and still retains original features including its huge Saxon beams.

Jimmy did the two shows, which were part of the venue’s annual series of special luncheon events, with his old friend Keith Swift.

Both are pictured here with two of the owners, Matthew above and Trish below.

Jimmy Cricket returned to St Sebastian’s Community Centre in Salford to do a show along with his old friend and singer Keith Swift.

Keith SwiftThe centre, which is at Douglas Green, is a community resource managed
by a small group of volunteers, which provides a range of
opportunities and services for local people. A variety of community activities are offered by the centre, including health and fitness, arts and care support groups.

Said Jimmy: “Thanks to Gerry who organised the event and the team of helpers who supplied the buffet and  who worked behind the bar area!”

Keith (left), who is known professionally as Jonathan Swift, is a dynamic vocalist who does a Frank Sinatra tribute act. Visit his website here.

He has performed several shows with Catherine Tyldesley (who plays Eva Price in Coronation Street and is an outstanding singer in herself), including a private party for Mr Manchester United himself, Sir Alex Ferguson, and makes regular appearances on The Jimmy Cricket Laughter Show with the long-time favourite Northern Irish comedian.

Rochdale Carers Choir

More than £200 was raised for a worthy charity at Jimmy Cricket’s recent jam night in Rochdale.

Local, national and sometimes international entertainers perform for nothing at the monthly event, which takes place at St Vincent’s RC Parish Centre in the Norden area of the Greater Manchester town.

Among the musicians at the latest jam evening in early July were the Rochdale Carers Choir (members of which are pictured above with Jimmy and below), Keith Swift, Liz Creagh and Nathan Birks.

Famous entertainer Jimmy, 71, said: “The money raised by our generous audience on the night went towards keeping the Carers Choir on the road!”

The choir was set up by carers at the resource centre in Rochdale in June 2012 and is going from strength to strength, with a membership of more than 30 led by choirmaster Philip Reynolds.
