Sing along to Jimmy’s ‘Roll out the Vaccine’ song! 150 150 mhamer

Sing along to Jimmy’s ‘Roll out the Vaccine’ song!

Sing along to Jimmy's 'Roll out the Vaccine' song!We all love a good old sing-song to cheer us up, especially during the darkest days.

And Jimmy Cricket has come up with a perfect ditty to keep our spirits going during the latest lockdown.

The ever-popular Northern Irish comedian has adapted the words of an old war-time favourite, Roll out the Barrel.

He recorded his very own version on YouTube, called Roll out the Vaccine, which can be heard here.

It is in reference to the roll-out of the various vaccines designed to protect people against coronavirus.

Queen Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip received the coronavirus vaccine on Saturday.

The UK government says every adult in the country will get the offer of a coronavirus vaccine by autumn this year.

Roll out the Barrel was particularly popular worldwide during World War II.

According to Wikipedia, Czech musician Jaromír Vejvoda composed the music in 1927.

It is also known as Beer Barrel Polka and The Barrel Polka.

Wikipedia said many others recorded and played the song.

They included The Andrews Sisters in the Glenn Miller OrchestraBenny GoodmanBobby Vinton and Billie Holiday.

It added: “During World War II, versions in many other languages were created and the song was popular among soldiers, regardless of their allegiances.

“The authors of the English lyrics were Lew Brown and Wladimir Timm.”

So, folks, Jimmy and his wife May want us all to call up his vaccine version now and have a good old sing-along to it!

Jimmy Cricket: What I want for Christmas and Strictly Come Dancing

Jimmy Cricket appeared in the 50th edition of Rochdale Style

Jimmy Cricket was the subject of a special feature in the 50th edition of Rochdale Style.

The article about the Rochdale-based, Belfast-born comedian, 72, was in a question-and-answer format.

Among the questions were what does the Northern Irish entertainer want for Christmas.

His reply? “Peace or the box set of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers! I just watch Fred on YouTube and think he’s incredible. He’s a big inspiration to me.”

And when asked if he would appear on BBC’s popular Strictly Come Dancing, Jimmy said: “Oh Yes? Tomorrow!”

The Rochdale Style magazine is edited by actor Colin Meredith, a good friend of Jimmy.

Jimmy is currently playing Professor Fitzwarren in pantomime Dick Whittington, which is running at Rochdale’s Gracie Fields Theatre until New Year’s Eve.

The panto also features The Chase’s Mark Labbett (also known as The Beast), who plays King Rat.

YouTube comedy clips & a letter from Jimmy Cricket

Jimmy Cricket

Here is a short letter from your favourite entertainer Jimmy Cricket introducing a new sequence of clips produced for the homepage of this website via his YouTube channel.

 Hi folks,

It’s me, Jimmy Cricket, come closer…

Thank you for coming on my website. If you are regular, a double thank you. And if you are a newcomer, a warm welcome.

I hope you enjoying browsing through and finding something of interest for you.

The newest thing I have is this… last year I came in contact with a young man called Dom Hyndman. Dom organised a charity show to send some young people to Lourdes to help wheel-bound and disabled people get around a pilgrimage, and help with their healing and give them spiritual serenity.

Dom is also a brilliant cameraman and works on all sorts of shows, from Coronation Street to the Antiques Roadshow.

He put together a very good feature for my website called The story in pictures, which was all about how I made my breakthrough into television. The next thing he did was last October when I released an album of Christmas songs for the children’s hospice Francis House; he came to the studio and did some nice footage for me.

When we were thinking about the next project to work on, we decided to go for the four series that I’ve done on Central Television in the 1980s – take the first series and concentrate on the guest stars I had on the show.

So for the next nine weeks we will have a guest artist – they range from Jim Bowen and Frank Carson to Dennis Taylor.

I hope you find it interesting and if there’s anything else you think would make the website more interesting, please feel free to let us know.

Enjoy!

Forgotten passport nearly KO-ed Greek cruise shows with Rory Bremner 150 150 mhamer

Forgotten passport nearly KO-ed Greek cruise shows with Rory Bremner

Jimmy Cricket's column in the Preston-based Lancashire Evening Post

Jimmy Cricket once failed to persuade the authorities in Athens to let him into Greece without his passport.

The famous entertainer was scheduled to do some shows on a cruise ship around the Greek Islands with friend and impressionist Rory Bremner.

It was during the 1980s when Jimmy, now 70, had his TV series And There’s More, for which he did some YouTube sketches with Bremner, then a “young, fresh-faced impressionist doing his stint in a pub in London”.

Jimmy’s agent told Jimmy he had arranged a three-day cruise for him and Rory performing cabaret on board.

“Now prior to this, I hadn’t been out of the country with Mrs Cricket and, as we had a young family then, it was usually to Disneyland in Florida,” he told readers of the Preston-based Lancashire Evening Post in his July column.

“In other words, my good lady took care of all the travel arrangements. Sooo – and you’re probably not going to believe this – but I actually headed off to Greece with my hat, my wellies, my jammies, my toothbrush, but without – wait for this – my passport!”

He said he somehow managed to get the staff at Heathrow – who recognised him – to go through, they but warned him the Greek authorities “might not be so understanding”.

And despite Jimmy showing staff at Athens photos from his suitcase of him in his full stage costume of hat and wellies and also contacting the cruise organiser and British Embassy official, he still ended up spending the night sleeping on the airport floor!

However, Mrs Cricket sent his passport details through the next morning and he finally got to go on the cruise.

And media coverage of the song,  which is based on the Uruguay and former Liverpool striker who was banned for four months for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during the World Cup in Brazil this summer, has been far and wide too.

As well as being featured in the Daily Mirror and in its sister publication, the Irish Mirror, Jimmy’s tune has made it to Africa and to the United States of America.

For anyone interested in an actual CD copy of the song, it can be purchased for £2.50 by ringing the record label Rolling Tear who are the distributors. They can be contacted on 07931 528435.

And there’s more – the B side for the single is a karaoke singalong version of the song!

Jimmy said he was thrilled about the response so far, adding: “I have just been blown away with the interest that has been generated by this comedy song.

“I thought it was such a huge topic during this year’s Brazil World Cup that I just had to have a go at writing a funny take on the story. I am thrilled it has created a bit of a stir and the global attention is something I did not really expect at all!”
