Rocker ’Brella Fella was screened at Home, Manchester’s premier arts centre and a registered charity.

Home features two theatres, five cinemas, an art gallery and a restaurant.

It has welcomed more than seven million visitors since opening.

Tim Vine himself and Jimmy’s son, ex-comedian-turned-Roman Catholic priest Fr Frankie Mulgrew, attended the latest screening of Rocker ’Brella Fella.

Northern Irish entertainer Jimmy said: “What a wonderful fun-filled evening meeting up with fellow comics Tim Key, Dominic Larkin, Tony Vino, ex-comic/Catholic priest Fr Frankie, while watching the very funny Tim Vine in the movie, which was directed/produced by Tim alongside his co-producer Andrew Jobbins at this new fabulous venue in Manchester called Home.”

The screening took place on 9 February and included a quesion-and-answer session with Tim.

The Home website says: “It’s Tim Vine in a brand-new, rocking Plastic Elvis feature film!

“Featuring 26 original new songs and a silly toe-tapping tale that’ll send your spirits soaring.

“Sam Salono returns home to Widestairs because the family umbrella business is in trouble, and he’s got some big news to share.

“It’s one catchy tune after another as Sam rocks his way through every situation; a boat trip, a crazy golf course, and a chance meeting with a local comedian – nothing can stop him.

“‘Are you in a party mood?’ He shouts to the Beach bar audience.

“‘Yes, I am!”’they all shout back, and you will be too after you’ve watched Rocker ’Brella Fella!”

An Englishman, Irishman and Italian climb into a car…

Jimmy Cricket has been a newspaper columnist for almost a decade - but he appeared in a fellow funnyman's column about a car share earlier this week!

Jimmy Cricket has been a newspaper columnist for almost a decade – but he featured in a fellow funnyman’s column earlier this week!

The Northern Irish entertainer appeared in Steve Royle’s latest Blackpool Gazette column.

It centred on how they and another comedian, Tony Vino, did a car share to a gig in Essex.

Steve is an actor, writer, comedian, juggler and presenter.

He was a finalist on ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent in 2020.

Tony has been a professional comedian for more than 10 years, touring both nationally and internationally.

Steve’s column begins: “An Englishman, Irishman and an Italian climb into a car.

Autobiography

“Sounds like the start to a bad joke but in actual fact it was the beginning of a marvellous journey.

“Having the company of two great comics on such an epic journey was more entertaining than the gig itself, with plenty of amazing anecdotes, especially from my fellow Lancashire Evening Post columnist, Jimmy.

“He has an autobiography out at the moment and even though I bought a copy, I think he told us virtually every story in it during the 14-hour round trip.”

Jimmy’s autobiography, Memoirs Of An Irish Comedian, costs £11.99 as a paperback.

It tells the heart-warming story of his 50 golden years in showbusiness – told in his own words.

Recognisable for wearing a funny hat and green wellies marked L and R on the wrong feet, Jimmy has been making people laugh for half a century.

And he proudly keeps his comedy clean – increasingly rare these days –  making him the perfect family entertainer.

Does God laugh out loud?

Does God LOL? Compiled by Frankie Mulgrew, son of Jimmy Cricket The comedian-turned-priest younger son of entertainer Jimmy Cricket has had a book published about God and humour.

Frankie Mulgrew, whose stage name was Frankie Doodle, compiled and edited Does God LOL? (LOL is internet slang for Laugh Out Loud), which went on sale recently.

Fr Frankie Mulgrew leaves church after saying his first Mass as a Catholic priest

Ken Dodd, Ricky Tomlinson, Tim Vine, Jo Brand, Milton Jones and the late Frank Carson are among the famous showbiz names to have contributed to the book, which is priced at £7.99 (and is available at all good bookshops and websites, including Amazon).

The foreword was written by top theologian Tom Wright and there are cartoons from Dave Walker, Simone Lia, Mike Kazybrid and Robert Duncan.

All proceeds from sales of the book will go towards the charity Mary’s Meals, an organisation which supports school feeding projects in some of the world’s poorest communities where hunger and poverty prevent children from gaining an education.

Fr Frankie (above right), who was ordained a Roman Catholic priest at Salford Cathedral last month, dedicated the book to his dad – “for introducing me to one of God’s greatest gifts” – when he celebrated his first Mass, and presented him with a special copy.

Does God LOL? develops a theme around whether the Almighty has a sense of humour, with an impressive array of well-known comedians, actors and performers – including Jimmy Cricket as well of course – all giving it some serious thought.

The book is published by Darton, Longman & Todd.

* Does God LOL? is clearly in demand: The popular Amazon website reported on 4 August that it had “only nine [copies] left in stock (more on the way)”, though there appears to be good availability again now (as of 11 August) – and it is currently available at just £5.99.
