Jimmy’s Christmas card for this year

Hi folks, it’s me, Jimmy, come closer!

As we approach the end of 2023, I’d like to say a big ‘thank you’ to everyone who came out to see me at one of my live shows this year, and who bought my new autobiography which came out on the first of April.

I’d like to take this opportunity to tell you about some of the exciting things that will be happening in 2024…

There’s nowhere quite like Blackpool and next March I’ll be playing my ninth season at the lovely Lyndene Hotel on the promenade.

The four dates there next year are as follows:

  • Wednesday 6 March
  • Wednesday 5 June
  • Wednesday 4 September
  • Wednesday 4 December.

Also in March I’ll be going back to the Cabaret Lounge in Hull for my fifth appearance for owners Paul and Bev – on Sunday 17 March (St Patrick’s Day of course!).

And to round off a great month, I’ll be doing a three-day theatre tour of Northern Ireland with my fellow Irish comedians Roy Walker, Adrian Walsh and Gene Fitzpatrick.

The dates for that are:

In July I’ll be doing two shows for my favourite television channel – Talking Pictures – at the Savoy Theatre in Monmouth, Wales. For anyone who can’t get to the actual shows, they will be televised.

I’ll keep you in touch with these shows and any others on this website via the Tour Dates section.

In the meantime, my wife May and myself wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Yours Truly

Jimmy

Why I got barred from our parish hall watching a Hollywood film… 150 150 mhamer

Why I got barred from our parish hall watching a Hollywood film…

I pay tribute to the great Hollywood and UK movies I have watched all my life and where you can access them today @TalkingPicsTV and it was fun to do the show with Jimmy Tarbuck @MikeReadUK @TheRealTimHealy @margiclarke1 and Lola 🎭

Jimmy Cricket talks about his first experiences of Hollywood films… and tells how he got banned from his local parish hall while watching one!

In his latest column Lancashire Post column, the Northern Irish comic recalls seeing The Charge of the Light Brigade as a six-year-old.

It was being shown via a small projector at a parochial venue in a Belfast suburb called Ligoniel.

Jimmy remembers that the tension towards the end of the film got too much for him.

He jumped out of his seat and at the top of his voice shouted: “Charge!”.

It resulted in him becoming the first child to be barred from the parish hall!

He says Belfast was teeming with cinemas in the 1950s as TV hadn’t taken off fully by then.

Celebrities attended film festival roadshow

The popular funnyman also highights a special service called Talking Pictures TV.

It is a family-run business that shows films from the 1930s through to the 60s.

Last October, Jimmy and other celebrities attended the Talking Pictures Festival of Film roadshow on Merseyside.

Famous Liverpool comic Jimmy Tarbuck and well-known TV actor Tim Healey also took part in the event at the Plaza Community Cinema Waterloo.

Tim has appeared in many productions, including Auf Wiedersehen, Pet.

The programme was a British comedy-drama television programme about seven British construction workers who leave the UK to search for employment overseas.

It first aired in the early 1980s.

Jimmy Tarbuck is an English comedian, singer, actor, entertainer and game show host.

He hosted numerous game shows and quiz shows on ITV during the 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s.

Radio DJ Mike Read was the compère and interviewer for the event.

Art Deco style

The community cinema has a long and illustrious history.

It opened on 2 September 1939, but was immediately closed again that same day due to regulations introduced by the outbreak of war!

Following the reopening two weeks later, the cinema offered full film programmes and live variety entertainment from well-known artists such as Tommy Handley, Arthur Askey, Charlie Chester, Ted Ray and Hylda Baker.

The venue faced being redeveloped in October 1995, but local people joined together to save the cinema.

Local fund-raising and volunteers restored it to pristine Art Deco-style glory.
