Party marks Lancashire priest’s 75th birthday
Jimmy Cricket recently participated in a special birthday celebration for a friend who is a Catholic priest based in the Lancashire market town of Rawtenstall.
Fr David Lupton was celebrating his 75th birthday and has been the parish priest at St James The Less Roman Catholic church in Rawtenstall for a number of years. Rawtenstall is a town nestled between North Manchester and the east Lancashire town of Burnley.
Jimmy got to know Fr Lupton through his good friend and fellow comedian, Dusty Young, who has been a member of the parish for more than 20 years. Indeed it was Dusty who put together the entertainment segment for this memorable birthday lunch held for Fr David in the parish centre.
The afternoon started with a special service in the church, followed by everyone then moving next door and having a sit-down buffet meal, which Dusty’s wife, Carole, helped to cook and prepare. After the lunch, Jimmy assisted in keeping the good cheer going alongside Dusty and his wife, May, who sang a few songs.
Fr Lupton could not be kept away for the grand finale for which he joined in (above), capping off a momentous day for him, his family and close friends.
