Britain’s Got Talent winner in variety show

Viva Variety takes place at the Gaiety Theatre in Ayr on 14 AugustJimmy Cricket will make his first visit for many years to the magnificent Gaiety Theatre in Ayr next month.

The famous entertainer will be heading to the south-west coast of Scotland to feature in a variety show, Viva Variety, with local celebrity Liam Dolan – who is also the producer of the show – and Jai McDowall, the Scottish singer-songwriter who won Britain’s Got Talent in 2011.

The line-up is further complemented by the Dansarena Dancers who won a local talent search called Gaiety Got Talent hosted at the theatre at the beginning of July. The first prize of the talent show was to appear on Jimmy’s three extravaganzas on 14 and 15 August.

The Gaiety Theatre is a venue Jimmy appeared at for a week of shows in the 1980s when his special guest star was none other than EastEnders actor Shane Ritchie!

In recent times the theatre had a long spell when it was closed, with no prospect of it re-opening. However, a local consortium formed a campaign to revive the theatre and their aim was realised a couple of years ago when the front doors opened again for live entertainment.

Jimmy Cricket and the band at Pontins on the Isle of WightJimmy Cricket was recently reminded of the days when he worked at a Pontins holiday village where fellow TV star Shane Richie was the entertainments manager!

Terri Gardner, who worked with Jimmy in the early 1980s, sent the photo above via a Facebook message.

The picture features Terri and her partner, Ron, and the rest of their band alongside Jimmy at the Pontins holiday village called Little Canada on the Isle of Wight back in 1983.

Jimmy said: “Actually the band worked with me a few times that year and the really interesting fact associated with this holiday village during the same year was that the entertainments manager was none other than Shane Richie!”

Richie is an English actor, comedian, singer and media personality, well-known for his portrayal of the character Alfie Moon in the BBC One soap opera EastEnders.
