Welcome Back from the Storm show taking bookings!

Welcome back from the storm

Jimmy Cricket is now taking bookings for his music and laughter show, entitled Welcome Back from the Storm.

The popular Northern Irish comedian hopes the current vaccination programme means live performances will be back on the cards sooner rather than later.

Jimmy will offer his usual unoffensive brand of comedy, with wife May Marion (her stage name) providing the perfect music accompaniment with her singing.

His message to all theatre managers is that Welcome Back from the Storm is now taking bookings for 2021/22.

He tells them: “Just ring us on 01706 353545 or 01706 412552.”

Theatres and other entertainment venues have had to close for most of the time during the past 12 months because of the coronavirus pandemic.

However, more than 15 million people in the UK have now had their first coronavirus vaccine.

It has lifted hopes that some or many of the current restrictions will be lifted by Easter.

***************************

A while ago, Jimmy came up with a perfect ditty to keep our spirits going during the latest lockdown.

The famous funnyman adapted the words of an old war-time favourite, Roll out the Barrel.

And he recorded his very own version on YouTube, called Roll out the Vaccine, which can be heard here.

It’s in reference to the roll-out of the various vaccines designed to protect people against coronavirus.

The UK government says every adult in the country will get the offer of a coronavirus vaccine by autumn this year.

Roll out the Barrel was particularly popular worldwide during World War II.

According to Wikipedia, Czech musician Jaromír Vejvoda composed the music in 1927.

It is also known as Beer Barrel Polka and The Barrel Polka.

Wikipedia said many others recorded and played the song.

They included The Andrews Sisters in the Glenn Miller OrchestraBenny GoodmanBobby Vinton and Billie Holiday.

It added: “During World War II, versions in many other languages were created and the song was popular among soldiers, regardless of their allegiances.

“The authors of the English lyrics were Lew Brown and Wladimir Timm.”

So, folks, Jimmy and May want us all to call up his vaccine version now and have a good old sing-along to it!

And the Northern Irish entertainer returns to the venue on Sunday – St Patrick’s Day – for one of his Great Value for a Tenner comedy shows.

Belfast-born Jimmy produced the DVD in response to the overwhelming public clamour that suggested there was a real demand for a recording of his stand-up entertainment.

Jimmy Cricket Live - Pull Your Seats Forward

The DVD is an hour and 10 minutes long and includes Jimmy’s favourite routines, a phone call and letter from his mammy, his famous Leaving Home poem, his sentimental ballad called I’m Dreaming of a Far off Land and 20 minutes of extras.

Around 8,000 copies of the DVD have been sold, which is particularly impressive as it is not available in retail outlets; it can only be bought via the Go Shopping page on this website or at one of his live shows.

Jimmy posted on social media this week: “Looking forward to my return to the Theatre were I recorded my DVD nine years ago for the St Patrick’s Day celebrations this coming Sunday with Dansworks Dance Academy and a few Irish songs from Mrs C. ☘️

Donegal’s Letterkenny is the venue for April show

Jimmy Cricket will appear in Donegal on AprilJimmy Cricket’s only appearance in the Republic of Ireland this year involves a visit to the Donegal town of Letterkenny.

The An Grianan Theatre there will welcome him at the end of April for his show where every ticket is a tenner – although in this case it will be 10 euros and not the usual £10! As always, ever-popular entertainer Jimmy has a special concessionary rate for U16s who come along and these tickets are priced at five euros.

Belfast-born Jimmy was last in County Donegal during the autumn of last year when he appeared at the Balor Theatre in Ballybofey. Joining him on that occasion was surprise guest and Donegal-based comedian Andy McGranaghan.

Andy did a great job for Jimmy at this show and they got on really well, so when Andy suggested he should come back to Donegal to appear at his local theatre in neighbouring Letterkenny, Jimmy thought it was a marvellous idea.

So on Saturday 29 April (8pm start) Jimmy and Andy will join forces once more to provide those present with an evening of fun, frivolity, and a barrel-full of laughs!

Jimmy Cricket in the snowJimmy Cricket clearly enjoyed the snowy weather when he visited Oswaldtwistle Arts Centre ahead of his comedy show there later this month.

When the famous entertainer arrived at the Lancashire venue, the weather had created a dramatic snowy backdrop.

This fine image was captured by freelance photographer Tim Bradley, who had been hired by the Lancashire Evening Telegraph to take some snaps of Jimmy’s visit to the arts centre.

Jimmy has known Tim for a long time as he used to be the picture editor of the local paper where the well-known comedian is based in Rochdale.
