Great crowd at ‘one of the nicest theatres in Ireland’

Jimmy Cricket has recently been over to the Emerald Isle where he had a wonderful visit to what he describes as “one of the nicest theatres in Ireland”.

The An Grianan Theatre in Letterkenny hosted Jimmy and his stand-up comedy show where all seats are a tenner. As this Donegal town is located just across the border from Northern Ireland and the city of Derry, the tickets were not priced at £10 but 10 euros!

Joining Jimmy on stage for the second time in six months was his special guest for the night, Letterkenny-based comedian Andy McGranaghan (both are pictured right).

A great crowd turned up to see Andy, Jimmy and his wife May Marion, who provided some musical interludes during the show.

Some of Jimmy’s relatives were among those present as his second cousins have always lived in Donegal and whenever he visits they try to see him for a catch-up.

After the show Jimmy stayed overnight in the beautiful coastal town of Buncrana, where he had a fabulous stay at the aptly named Harbour Inn located across from the beach and the Donegal coastline.

Jimmy, 71, said: “Hopefully it won’t be too long before I return to this region of Ireland which once more gave me a very warm welcome.”

Irish paper promotes show in Letterkenny

Jimmy Cricket’s sole appearance in the Republic of Ireland this year has been the subject of a recent newspaper article.

The show on Saturday 29 April in Donegal was featured in the Letterkenny Post.

The An Grianan Theatre in Letterkenny will welcome Jimmy for his gig where every ticket is a tenner – although in this case it will be 10 euros and not the usual £10!

As always, ever-popular entertainer Jimmy has a special concessionary rate for U16s who come along and these tickets are priced at five euros.

Belfast-born Jimmy was last in County Donegal last autumn when he appeared at the Balor Theatre in Ballybofey. Joining him on that occasion was surprise guest and Donegal-based comedian Andy McGranaghan.

Andy did a great job for Jimmy at this show and they got on really well, so when Andy suggested he should come back to Donegal to appear at his local theatre in neighbouring Letterkenny, Jimmy thought it was a marvellous idea.

Hence on 29 April (8pm start) Jimmy and Andy will join forces once more to provide those present with an evening of fun, frivolity, and a barrel-full of laughs!

Jimmy Cricket’s Ireland trip has a family theme

Jimmy Cricket recently embarked on a mini-tour of the north of Ireland, which included shows in Belfast and Portrush, plus a hop over the border to the Donegal town of Ballybofey.

A family theme prevailed for the first night of the tour at the Balor Arts Centre in Ballybofey as Jimmy’s cousins Orla, Adele and Pedar (pictured with the famous comedian above) went along to watch the show.

This is because a strand of Jimmy’s extended family have always based in the town of Ballybofey and the neighbouring border town of Strabane – and he remembers fondly his visits as a child to his aunts and uncles who lived in this part of the country.

Belfast-born Jimmy was deeply impressed his three cousins were able to get to the show as the night before another one of his cousins from that region called Maria had celebrated her 50^th birthday in Sligo – a party he could not make due to work commitments.

For the next evening Jimmy – who lives in Rochdale, England – then popped back to Belfast to appear in a fundraiser at St Brigid’s Parish Hall, where the family connection continued as this concert was arranged by his nephew, Peter, to raise funds for the Gaelic Association.

At the show was his other nephew, Brendan, along with his two sons (pictured below with Jimmy and Peter).

And the family connection did not stop there as alongside Jimmy the concert also featured Peter’s talented daughter, Laura, and members of the junior drama and music society based within the parish.

The final night of the three-date tour was a wonderful visit to Portstewart Town Hall for an event with local man Michel Moore.

Jimmy, 71, said: “All in all, a lovely trip back home for me in such friendly circumstances.”

Mini-tour to take in both sides of the Irish border

Jimmy Cricket will make his latest trip back home to Northern Ireland at the start of November.

The Belfast-born entertainer will be appearing at a variety of events, which will see him also pop across the border into County Donegal in the Republic of Ireland.

In fact, the visit to the Balor Arts Centre (above) in Ballybofey will be the first date of this mini-tour in November. Jimmy, 70, was last in Ballybofey to appear at the old Balor Arts Centre nearly a decade ago.

Since then a modern replacement building has been constructed and this new auditorium will welcome him on Saturday 5 November. For more information go to the centre’s website here.

The next night Jimmy will be on more familiar territory as he returns to Belfast to appear at St Brigid’s Parish Hall in South Belfast on Sunday 6 November. The event is to raise money for Saint Brigids Gaelic Club and there is a family connection as Jimmy’s nephew, Peter Mulgrew, is helping to organise this fundraiser.

Jimmy Cricket to perform in Spain, Cyprus & Ireland

Veteran comedian Jimmy Cricket is going international during the remainder of 2016.

Jimmy, 70, has plans to entertain in Spain during June, in Cyprus through September and in the Republic of Ireland in November.

His trip to the Costa Blanca during the first week of June involves appearances at The Emerald Isle and the Madhouse, both located in the Orihuela district of the Alicante region.

Then in September, Rochdale-based Jimmy will team up with Richard & Adam – who both featured in the 2013 series of Britain’s Got Talent – to tour some of the wonderful venues located in and around the lovely Mediterranean island of Cyprus.

Jimmy will travel to County Donegal in the Republic of Ireland towards the backend of the year.
