Berwick-based performers will take to the stage in the summer alongside the well-known comedian Jimmy Cricket.

The show, to be hosted in July at The Maltings Theatre & Cinema, will see the Berwick Operatic Society (pictured above) appear on Jimmy’s touring laughter show.

This show has visited theatres up and down the UK, though this will be the first time Jimmy will appear at The Maltings in Berwick-on-Tweed.

The veteran entertainer has had an amazing six months. Last autumn he received a Papal Knighthood from the Catholic Church – the highest honour that can be awarded to a lay person – and then he supported the iconic Osmonds on a UK Christmas tour.

Lisa Summers, secretary of the Berwick Operatic Society, said: “When I was approached by Jimmy’s company on whether our society would like to get involved with his show, I thought we should seize this chance.

“We are shortly going to put our performance together and it is an exciting time for those who will take part as they will get to share the stage with an entertainer with such stature as Jimmy!”

Jimmy, 70, said: “I am thrilled to welcome the Berwick Operatic Society on to the show, as they are a reputable artistic enterprise and are a great addition.

“It also means a local involvement when I visit Berwick in July – and I always encourage communities to support their local theatre and flag wave for its continued existence.

“I am also delighted the show’s ticket prices remain really affordable, which means a family can come and have a live performance experience. We have opted for a Sunday afternoon, as regular activities can be done on the Saturday, before ensuring the weekend ends with relaxation and fun while watching my show.”

The Jimmy Cricket Laughter Show is at The Maltings, Berwick-upon-Tweed, on Sunday 17 July, 2016. It begins at 2.30pm.

Tickets for the show are priced at £12, £10.50 and £10. To book a ticket visit the theatre’s website at http://www.maltingsberwick.co.uk or ring the theatre’s booking line on 01289 330 999.
