Two great venues to get the new year up and running!

Hi folks, back on the road in 2022, and what a wonderful venue, my thanks to Peter Anthony and Paul @LythamHall my thanks also goes to @Philwalkercomic and compère who did a great job holding the show together for the evening! Performing arts

Jimmy Cricket returned to the stage for the first time in 2022 with shows at two excellent venues.

The popular Northern Irish comic performed at Lytham Hall in Lancashire on Friday 28 January (see photo above).

Jimmy posted on social media about his visit to Lytham Hall: “Hi folks, back on the road in 2022, and what a wonderful venue.

“My thanks to Peter Anthony and Paul @LythamHall.

“My thanks also go to @Philwalkercomic and compère who did a great job holding the show together for the evening!”

Sean Lester commented: “We loved it Jimmy, you’ve not changed a bit over all the years!

“Thanks for a lot of laughs!”

The Lytham Hall official website says it is “the finest Georgian house in Lancashire”.

It adds: “It was once the ancestral home of the colourful Clifton Family, spanning over four centuries.

“It is a Grade I listed building, so is therefore of significant local and national interest.

“The site and its 80 acres of parkland are of great archaeological interest dating back to the 12th century when it was home to a priory of Benedictine monks.

“Sir Cuthbert Clifton built a Jacobean Manor House on this site in 1606.

“Much of the Jacobean building still exists.

‘Topped off my birthday weekend perfectly!’

“In 1752 Thomas Clifton commissioned John Carr of York to build the  fine palladian house which we see today.”

Jimmy was in action again at Lake View in Cumbria the following night (see pictures below).

Jimmy Cricket continues his shortened season this week at a popular Blackpool hotel, which bills him as “TV’s Irish comedy legend”.
The evergreen entertainer returns to the Lyndene on Wednesday for his second appearance of the month there.
The hotel posted on Facebook: “Wednesday 14th October at the Lyndene Hotel, entertainment with excellent vocalist Benjamin Moss and comedy from TV’s Irish Comedy Legend Jimmy Cricket.

Jimmy has been appearing at the Lyndene Hotel for several years.
The Belfast-born funnyman had been scheduled to do two shows a night on 23 dates during 2020.
However, his summer performances could not go ahead because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The government placed the United Kingdom into national lockdown in late March.

Unique venue

But the reopening of hotels and other entertainment venues meant Jimmy could return to the Lyndene several weeks ago.

Three compered acts usually perform twice per night, once each in different lounges at the Lyndene.

The Lyndene Hotel, perched on the seafront, is one of Blackpool’s unique venues as it welcomes tourists and visitors all year round.

It offers a series of seasonal packages around the Blackpool illuminations and Christmas.

Lancashire theatre almost as famous as the Chorley Cake itself 150 150 mhamer

Lancashire theatre almost as famous as the Chorley Cake itself

I talk about the history of the @ChorleyTheatre and how it has survived over the decades, to become a great theatre venue under the direction of artistic Director Ian Robinson!

Jimmy Cricket has been telling readers of his monthly column about a small theatre which has “a warmth and atmosphere all of its own”.

The even-green Northern Irish comedian writes about working with Chorley Little Theatre in his latest column in the Lancashire Evening Post.

He begins: “While visiting Chorley recently, I made it my business to go and see the Little Theatre. Nestling slap bang in the middle of town in a place called Dole Lane, it’s so quaint and cute, you could see why it’s getting to be almost as famous as the Chorley Cake itself.

“It opened in 1910 as the Empire Electric Theatre with a capacity of 700. The less well-off sat at the front on wooden seats, while the posh people were able to put their feet up at the back in ‘plush seats.

“It originally showed silent movies with a live pianist accompanying the action. These piano players were special in the way they interpreted the scenes, using light-hearted music when the characters were happy and dramatic notes when danger struck. What a lovely era that must have been, sitting with your friends passing round the popcorn looking up at the big screen and laughing hysterically at the comedic exploits of Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton.”

Jimmy finishes off his column by saying: “With a fully licensed bar and car parking facilities just across the road the 236 seater has a warmth and atmosphere all of its own. I know that from playing it myself a few years back.

“It’s run by a team of enthusiastic volunteers and spearheaded by a young man whose passionate about live Theatre called Ian Robinson.

“I myself will be returning there on Sunday May 19 with a new play I’ve written called No More Fiffen and Faffen. It tells the story of a comedy double act. It’s their last night in summer season in an end of pier show, but because things haven’t gone according to plan they decide to make it their last show after 36 years in showbusiness.”

Tickets for Jimmy’s show at the Chorley Little Theatre are £10 concessions £5, Box Office: 01257 284362 for more information visit their website: www.chorleytheatre.com
