Freddie Starr was ‘one of our best ever visual comedians and mimics’ 150 150 mhamer

Freddie Starr was ‘one of our best ever visual comedians and mimics’

Freddie was one of our best ever visual comedians and mimics. He took physical comedy on to another level. His incredible performance on the Royal Variety is forever etched in our memories.

Jimmy Cricket was among those to pay tribute to comedian Freddie Starr who died recently aged 76.

The Merseyside-born comic, singer, impressionist and actor was found dead at his home in Spain’s Costa del Sol earlier this month.

TV presenter Amanda Holden told the BBC that he should be “remembered with a smile”, while comic Bobby Davro described Starr as “the funniest man I have ever seen”.

And all-round entertainer Jimmy said: “I would love to see Freddie’s whole 12 minute spot from the 1970 Royal Variety Show. He did great impressions of Billy Fury and Adam faith before Mick Jagger. I saw him live at the Shakespeare Club in Liverpool a few nights after that show and the atmosphere was electric.”

Jimmy, 73, also posted on social media: “Freddie was one of our best ever visual comedians and mimics. He took physical comedy on to another level. His incredible performance on the Royal Variety is forever etched in our memories.”
