Lyndene Hotel: Jimmy finishes first 2017 stint

Jimmy Cricket has just completed the spring set of dates for his 2017 residency at the popular Lyndene Hotel in Blackpool.

The 71-year-old entertainer started back in January and has had shows through the winter and into spring, ending on Saturday 18 March to coincide with the St Patrick’s Day festivities.

Although his residency is throughout 2017, the dates when Jimmy will appear at the Lyndene have been split into two periods this year.

It means he will not return to the hotel to resume his performances until Wednesday 4 October, but when he does go back he will have a further 13 dates, including every Wednesday and Saturday throughout the month of November (full schedule below).

Primarily, this has involved a couple of performances per visit, as often the hotel is so packed with guests they need to have a second spill-over show in the conservatory after the main cabaret room fills up.

Jimmy, who also did a host of shows at the Blackpool hotel last year, said: “I have  become very fond of the Lyndene Hotel and thoroughly enjoyed  my time appearing there.

“I would like to place on record my many thanks to the owners of the Lyndene Hotel – Barry and Carole – for continuing to host me at their venue.

“I also thank Claire at Tower Top Entertainments for helping to organise my Lyndene visits over the course of 2017.”

Tune in to ‘Gilly’s Comedy Gala for Comic Relief’

Jimmy Cricket's Lancashire Post columnAn optician who is about to realise her dream of performing stand-up comedy at the Blackpool Opera House is the subject of Jimmy Cricket’s latest newspaper column.

Famous entertainer Jimmy talks in the Lancashire Evening Post about Sarah Morgan – an optometrist by profession – whom he first met last October on a BBC Radio Lancashire show hosted by John Gillmore.

“When Sarah asked my advice around getting on in the entertainment business, I asked her what would be her dream gig,” explains Jimmy, 71.

“She replied: ‘Jimmy, to play the Blackpool Opera House.’

“Then today something wonderful happened. I received an email from Gilly’s [John Gillmore] producer Gary, which broadly read: ‘Great news, Jimmy. Sarah is to appear at – wait for it – the Blackpool Opera House.’

“‘We’ve organised a show there on Friday 24 March. It’s called ‘Gilly’s Comedy Gala for Comic Relief’ and Sarah is headlining it. It’ll be broadcast on BBC Radio Lancashire from 2.15pm till 4pm. We’d love you to come and introduce her!'”

“Try to stop me,” says Jimmy.

“You know, folks, it’s special to realise your dream, but to help somebody else to realise theirs is just as special.

“Try to tune in if you can.”

Jimmy Cricket has started his 2017 residency at the Lyndene Hotel in Blackpool.

His opening night of what is a 22-date season was 21 January and he has five shows lined up there for February, beginning on Wednesday (the full schedule is below).

The rest of Jimmy’s visits will span the coming spring and autumn, with November being the busiest month for him when he will perform there every Wednesday and Saturday.

Much-loved Northern Irish comedian Jimmy, 71,  said: “I was thrilled my 2017 opener went well and a lot of people were present, even though it was a cold January night in Blackpool!”

The Lyndene is one of Blackpool’s unique locations as it welcomes tourists and visitors all year round.

For this hotel perched on the Blackpool seafront,  after the illuminations season ends each year it is straight into its Christmas season with turkey and tinsel stays.

Then post-Christmas and at the start of each New Year, the Lyndene offers attractive packages to keep the hotel ticking over until after Easter, when the early summer season arrives.

Jimmy added: “I am really pleased to have kicked off my 2017 season there as I enjoy being associated with the hotel, and Blackpool always has been – and will continue to be – one of my most favourite places to entertain.”

The famous entertainer appeared at the hotel over the 2015 August Bank Holiday weekend and was so popular he was invited back for a spring run of 32 dates during the first part of last year.

A list of Jimmy’s shows for this year is below.

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year, folks!

Jimmy Cricket's Christmas card features new US president Donald TrumpDear readers,

I cannot believe 2016 is coming to an end and the Christmas season is once more upon us.

This year has been a fantastic one for me personally as it all started back in January with a service led by the Bishop of Salford to formally award me with my Papal Knighthood.

During the year I have also been fortunate to have:

·         Been involved in some great shows, such as the You Must Be Joking, which toured Northern Ireland back in the spring, and the opening weekend of The Good Old Days autumn season at the world-famous City Varieties Theatre in Leeds

·         Made a couple of appearances alongside my friend Tony Crane and the iconic 60s band The Merseybeats

·         Had trips to Spain to appear in some lovely venues around the Costa Blanca region

·         Paid visits to the Warner Leisure sites at Nidd Hall in Harrogate and Bembridge on the Isle of Wight

·         Did a spring season at the Lyndene Hotel in Blackpool

·         Continued to write a monthly column in the Preston-based Lancashire Evening Post

·         And managed, at long last, to launch a new Christmas CD for the Francis House Children’s Hospice – a project I’ve been wanting to get off the ground for a couple of years. As I write this, I am nearing sales of more than 1,300 from this year’s festive period.

This Christmas I am at the White Rose Theatre in Leeds featuring in a panto production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

And then when we get into 2017, I immediately fly off to Tenerife for an appearance there early in the New Year!

And there’s more…

… Other highlights for 2017 include a return to the Benidorm Palace in March alongside Gerry and the Pacemakers; another residency back at the Lyndene Hotel in Blackpool over the winter, spring and the autumn; teaming up with my pals from  show band group Clubsound for a night in Northern Ireland In April; a visit to the Wayside Cheer Hotel in Guernsey over the Easter weekend; a voyage with Cruise & Maritime Voyages around the Faroe Islands in July; and plenty more to keep me out of mischief!

If you see me advertised at any venue near you in 2017, please do come along and say ‘Hi’!

That reminds me… can I thank all those who over the last year have either seen one of my shows, or browsed this website, or bought one of my CDs or DVDs.

All that remains for me to say, dear readers, is have a happy Christmas and a great start to the New Year!

Jimmy Cricket with Barry and Carole Young

The owners of a Blackpool hotel are the latest joint winners of Jimmy Cricket’s Golden Wellington award.

Barry and Carole Young run the popular Lyndene Hotel in Blackpool, where famous comic Jimmy spent the first five months of this year, performing twice a week on stage.

He said: “I thoroughly enjoyed appearing at a hotel that has grown into one of Blackpool’s most popular destinations. This is solely down to the owners of the Lyndene, Barry and his wife, Carole.

“I thought I would award both Barry and Carole the Golden Wellington for all their hard work in proving that our domestic seaside resorts can be successful, especially in a place like Blackpool with so much history.

“I believe the Lyndene is proof that if you get the right offer, the customers will come and this impacts positively on Blackpool continuing to sustain itself.”

Jimmy presented Barry and Carole with the award (above) on the last night of his season at the hotel at the end of May.

The Golden Wellington is an award the 70-year-old created several years ago based on his trademark wellington boots.

Although it is a bit of fun, it has a serious side as Jimmy uses the publicity from the award to acknowledge a good deed or significant contribution to a community.
